About
Why Was This Site and App Built?
For a very long time, I have wanted to build this site. I’ve heard people say that they are a “New Testament believer” which doesn’t make a lot of sense. My father (who was a well known Christian author) always said “The New Testament is just commentary on the Old.” The New makes little sense if you remove all references to the Old.. This app as gives us raw stats that makes it very clear that if we did remove the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament) and everything related to it, it would be more confusing.
The Name, Unhitched
The name comes from the idea that the modern church, Andy Stanley’s North Point church specifically, should be “unhitched” from the Old Testament. In January of 2018, Andy had a sermon where he made quite a few statements how the Church should be separated and should no longer be associated with the Old Testament (YouTube link here).
The Use of AI
Every single aspect of this site was built using AI, from the WordPress plugins, to the React App. I am a web developer by trade, but I would never have the time to build this without AI tools.
The way the Bible is broken up is the only way I could find a way to do this. I could not tag every single Bible verse as “Related to the Old Testament” or not, but I could take stories within the chapters and tag those as “O.T. Related” or not. I wrote extensive prompts to first write the custom post type to hold the Bible verses and metadata. Once I had the backend of WordPress where it can have a Title (Matthew 1:1-17), The Content (The Bible verses), The tags (Related to O.T. or not), the Subtitle (Genealogy of Jesus), and a field for “AI Reasoning I was then able to write a script to ask “Is this section ‘Matthew 1:1-17’ related to the Old Testament? Does it have any quotes or mention characters from the Old Testament” and if so, it was tagged accordingly.
The “AI Reasoning”
As I submitted each section of scripture to ChatGPT (3.5), I knew I wouldn’t like some of the logic. Theology is extremely too nuanced for bots to give me what I would want, but it also does an o.k. job giving what the majority of Christianity teaches. That’s is how Large Language Modules (LLMs) work. It’s answers are going to affected by the majority. My guess, the AI answers give you more of a Evangelical interpretation. Though I’m not Evangelical anymore, it proves the point quite well.
Who Am I?
I’m just a guy that knows web development, WordPress, and how to build something like this and thought this would be a great way to try some vibe coding.
